Mike’s Drive-In began with a vision by Mike Martin in 1971, starting at the original 47th and E. Burnside location in Portland. In 1973, Mike moved to the iconic Milwaukie site at 3045 SE Harrison St., a building rich with local history. Originally, this site was Em & Dom’s Ice Cream Parlor, which stood where Highway 224 now runs. The parlor relocated to Oregon City before it was eventually rebuilt here in Milwaukie, remaining an ice cream shop until Ed and Barb leased it and later sold it to Mike Martin due to health concerns.
In 1976, a 14-year-old named Todd Freeman joined the team, with dreams of owning his own business. When Mike tragically passed in a car accident, Todd purchased Mike’s from the Martin family in 1983. Today, Todd is still at the heart of Mike’s Drive-In, upholding the tradition and community spirit that have made this place a local favorite for over 50 years.
